Algeria's women are competing as a team at a World Championships for the first time. They earned the place by winning the team title at the 2026 African Championships in Yaoundé, the country's first African team gold in women's gymnastics.

Built around Nemour

The team is led by Kaylia Nemour, the Olympic and world champion on uneven bars. At the African Championships she won the all-around by more than six points and took gold on bars, beam and floor. Several of her team-mates, like Nemour herself, grew up in France and chose to represent Algeria.

What to expect

Reaching the team final, which takes the top eight of 24 teams, would be a huge step for a debut team. The real story is individual. Nemour is the favourite for the uneven bars title on Saturday 24 October and a contender in the all-around. Algeria compete in the fifth subdivision at 11:05 on Monday 19 October.
