Rebeca Andrade has six Olympic medals, more than any other Brazilian athlete, and nine world championship medals. She is also one of the clearest stories of resilience in modern sport. She came back from three tears of the anterior cruciate ligament in her right knee, in 2015, 2017 and 2019, to become an Olympic and world champion.
Olympic medals
- Tokyo 2020: vault gold and all-around silver. - Paris 2024: floor gold ahead of Simone Biles, all-around silver, vault silver and team bronze.
Her floor title in Paris, won while Biles was also in the final, is the moment most fans remember.
World championships
Andrade won the world vault title in 2021 and again in 2023, and the all-around title in Liverpool in 2022. In Antwerp in 2023 she won five medals: vault gold, silver in the all-around, team and floor, and beam bronze.
A year away
Andrade took 2025 off after Paris. She returned in 2026 at the Pan American Championships, competing on vault only, where she helped Brazil to team silver and won the vault title. She also carried the Olympic flag at the opening ceremony of the 2026 Winter Olympics in February.
Rotterdam 2026
Brazil's women compete in qualification on Monday 19 October. Andrade is not expected to do all four apparatus, so she will not contest the all-around. Her value to Brazil's team total is on vault and floor, and on vault she remains a contender for a third world title.
