The 9th European Aerobic Gymnastics Championships took place in Elvas, Portugal, from 6 to 8 November 2015.
Individual titles
Vicente Lli of Spain won the men’s individual title. Oana Corina Constantin of Romania won the women’s event, four years after winning the same title in Bucharest. Spain also won mixed pairs.
Teams, dance and step
Romania won the trio event and Italy the group event. Russia won both aerobic step and aerobic dance.
A discipline built on teams
Aerobic gymnastics has individual events, but much of its character comes from pairs, trios and groups. Routines must stay synchronised at very high tempo, and a single mistake by one gymnast affects the whole unit.
Points worth noting
– Spain and Romania shared most of the individual and small-unit titles of the period. – Italy’s group gold showed the progress of Italian aerobic gymnastics before it hosted the 2017 Europeans in Ancona.
