Following her triumph in securing a second gold medal at the World Championships in Rotterdam on Sunday, Algeria’s Kaylia Nemour expressed her excitement with a single word.
“To begin with, and getting a bit technical here, I had never even reached a single final in any major competition before,” stated Nemour after clinching first place on the balance beam, having previously won the uneven bars title on Saturday.
Goals and Achievements
The 2024 Olympic champion and 2025 world champion on uneven bars shared that she aimed for a spot in the eight-gymnast final for balance beam. “Last year, I managed to break through and make it into one. That had been my goal, so I was already very happy. I ended up winning the silver medal, and I was absolutely with the angels (over the moon). This year, my goal wasn’t necessarily to win another medal. Just making it to the final was a huge success, even if I came very close to the top spot.” she remarked regarding her past performances on balance beam. “I’ve improved a lot on the balance beam, and across the board, really, including in the all-around,”
Progress and Development
Nemour, who finished fourth in the all-around category in Rotterdam due to a problematic vault, noted that her successful balance beam routine showcases the progress she has made across all apparatuses. “I’ve gained more power in my legs, and I’ve truly changed the way I perform and approach gymnastics. That’s been a huge help, because I think if you’d asked me two or three years ago, I might not have been able to handle the pressure or pull this off. So, working with Nadia (Massé, her coach), I’ve developed in so many areas. I absolutely love it.” she explained. “I’ve gained more power in my legs, and I’ve truly changed the way I perform and approach gymnastics.
