Virtually flawless world vault champion Artur Davtyan of Armenia: ‘Yes, it’s possible to improve’

Artur Davtyan of Armenia, who achieved gold on the vault at the World Championships in Rotterdam on Sunday, expressed confidence that his performance could have been even better. “Yes, it’s possible to improve,” the 34-year-old gymnast stated. Davtyan previously won the vault event at the 2022 World Championships in Liverpool. He noted, “There were still some mistakes. The first vault wasn’t perfect and I could have improved it, but the second was the maximum.”

Despite possibly downplaying his own success in the final, Davtyan indicated satisfaction among himself, his teammates, and coaches regarding their achievements in Rotterdam.

All four gymnasts from Armenia secured medals during the competition. On the opening day of apparatus finals held on Saturday, Hamlet Manukyan and Mamikon Khachatryan captured gold and bronze, respectively, on the pommel horse, while Artur Avetisyan earned bronze on the still rings.

“I’ve extremely satisfied that four of us came here and all four of us got something, and especially two gold medals,” Davtyan remarked. “This a super result. It seems that everyone is happy and pleased. Our coaches are also pleased. We thank them for training and motivating us.”
