The 30th European Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships were held in Baku, Azerbaijan, from 13 to 15 June 2014. Thirty-three federations sent juniors and seniors.
The even-year format
In even years the senior individual competition at the rhythmic Europeans was limited to the 20 best gymnasts from the previous year’s championships. In Baku they competed in two groups based on their 2013 ranking, places 1 to 10 and 11 to 20, each performing four apparatus.
Juniors and groups
– 102 juniors from 32 federations took part in the junior qualification, team competition and four apparatus finals. – 21 senior groups of six gymnasts presented two routines: 10 clubs and 3 balls + 2 ribbons. The general competition decided the group all-around, and the best groups returned for the apparatus finals.
Why Baku
Baku had hosted the 2009 Europeans and was preparing to stage the first European Games in 2015. The 2014 championships was an early test for the city’s venues and organisers.
