The 24 best juniors from qualification met in the PostFinance Arena in Bern on 3 June 2016 for the junior all-around final of the European Women’s Artistic Gymnastics Championships.
Eremina’s final
Top qualifier Elena Eremina of Russia had a difficult start. Her double-twisting Yurchenko vault was low and credited only as a one-and-a-half twist, and on bars she held on at the cost of a 7.6 execution score. Her beam was solid, and as the last gymnast on floor she produced the best floor routine of the day to win her first European all-around title.
The chasing pack
The race was close, with Lynn Genhart, Martine Basile, Maisie Methuen, Alice Kinsella and Morgane Osyssek-Reimer all in contention. Genhart was excellent on vault and beam and scored the second-highest bars mark in the last rotation, winning silver for the host nation.
Looking back
Eremina moved up to senior level in 2017 and became one of Russia’s leading all-arounders, while Kinsella became a regular member of Great Britain’s senior team.
