Unparalleled world parallel bars champion Zou Jingyuan: ‘This result is exactly what I was hoping for’

In a dominant display, China’s Zou Jingyuan clinched his fifth world title on parallel bars in Rotterdam on Sunday, achieving a remarkable score of 15.733 points.

Zou’s Reflections on His Achievement

“This result is exactly what I was hoping for,” Zou stated. He previously won gold in the same event at the World Championships in 2017, 2018, 2022, and 2025. “It’s the outcome I really wanted. Along the way, I had to deal with injuries, the rehabilitation process and a few setbacks during the team competition. Honestly, I’m just really happy with this result.”

Support for Athletes

As the reigning Olympic champion for both the 2020 and 2024 Games, Zou expressed that recent regulations in gymnastics greatly support athletes, especially as they age. “I think the current gymnastics rules are becoming increasingly favorable for athletes, helping with injury management and allowing for longer competitive careers, which encourages more people to stay involved,” he noted. “I think that’s a fantastic thing for us athletes. I also feel that our current generation of athletes is particularly well-suited to these conditions.”

Looking Ahead

Zou encouraged fans to continue supporting him and the Chinese gymnastics team as they prepare for the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games. “I hope everyone will continue to follow me and the Chinese gymnastics team,” he remarked. “We’ll keep striving to deliver flawless performances in future competitions, and hopefully bring even more surprises to all the gymnastics fans out there.”
